Heather Cvar’s life-long love of makeup artistry (even in elementary school, she was doing makeup and brows) has lead her to work with musicians, magazines, filmmakers, and designers from across the globe. Through her work as a makeup artist for film and print, she has developed a classically beautiful style with an edge and remained committed to organic and all-natural skincare.
A sculpture and painting major in the visual art program at the Orange County High School of the Arts, California, Heather grew up surrounded by musicians, photographers, and artists. She began working with music photographers and videographers while still in high school. She has travelled widely — to China, Egypt, and throughout Europe and the U.S. — and has lived and worked in Florence, Italy, and Reykjavik, Iceland. Travelling has inspired Heather’s work and given her a greater awareness of global beauty and skincare practices and trends, developing an ability to bring out the natural beauty of each of her clients, no matter their gender, ethnicity, age, or other attributes, enhancing each their personal styles.
Heather was licensed as an esthetician in 2001, and has been an airbrush makeup specialist since 2003. Her music clients include: Leonard Cohen, Greg Laswell, Ingrid Michealson, Fionn Regan, Kate Nash, Jdavey, Midnight Movies, LadyTron, Dave Mustaine, and Natasha Bedingfield. Other celebrity clients include: Chloe Sevigny, Frankie Rayder, Ben Foster, Rosario Dawson, Helen McCrory, and Traylor Howard. She has worked as a makeup artist for independent and short films, for television, commercials, and theater.
Her work for print media is extensive:
· Magazine events for Jane, Elle, Cosmo, Allure, and Vogue.
· Makeup featured in Cosmo Girl, Filter, Singular
· Key makeup artist and Style Editor for Ragged magazine (affiliated with Filter).
· Featured makeup artist for Mina magazine of Japan
Heather was also the Rimmel U Ambassador for 2007, serving as the company’s makeup artists on the West Coast when it introduced a new line of products that year. The designers she has worked with include: Juan Carlo OBANDO, Gregory Parkinson, David Hershberger of Endovanera, Matte Black, Battalion, Wren (Melissa Coker), and Kristen Coates. Heather’s techniques include beauty, natural looks, character, airbrushing, high fashion, black & white, grooming, and light hair styling. She does makeup stenciling and light special effects.
Heather enjoys research and consistently discovers cutting edge techniques before they are mainstream — she’s been one step ahead in airbrush makeup, organic skincare, and use of natural enzymes, to name a few. She listens carefully to her clients, then makes every effort to address their makeup preferences, needs, wishes, and concerns. She’ll take the time to figure out what works best for you!
